How Long Until Exercise is a Habit?
There is no magic number for how long it takes a habit to take hold. But it can happen as quickly as six to eight weeks. In general, it becomes easier for people to keep the routine of exercise in their daily life as they begin to feel the benefits.
You will soon see that a routine is anything but routine; It is simply a matter of following a format that makes you feel good about making promises to yourself and keeping them.
Too many people look at making changes as a form of deprivation. There's a better way to look at it: you are making a decision on your own behalf that will improve your life.
When exercise becomes automatic, that's a sign that you are keeping commitments to yourself that you know are smart—that you are getting stronger and making things happen. Exercise takes a little effort every now and then. But why wouldn't you want to work to reach your full potential?
